Elderberry Syrup Q & A

Q1. Why would I incorporate elderberry into our lifestyle?

Elderberry has been traditionally prized for its ability to lower inflammation, hinder virus duplication, & reduce your days spent being sick. Elderberry is an amazing source of vitamin C, antioxidants, and potent anthocyanins which can combat oxidative stress. Herbalists have recommended for generations... if you must pick only one healthful addition to your daily regimen for overall wellness & a powerful immune system.... Pick elderberry!

Q2. Recommended Dosage and use?

1 Tablespoon per day is a dose for an adult and older child. Toddlers, give 1 teaspoon.  In times of immune crisis, you may dose 3 times a day or more, depending on what you feel your body needs.  It’s simple real food (antioxidants, healthful spices, and pure raw honey) so partake in as much as your body craves. Enjoy in a fruit smoothie, over your morning oatmeal, stirred into tea, straight from the bottle, or even poured over ice cream! (I won't tell...)

Q3. Are there any contraindications to elderberry or can you overdose?

There are some limited situations in which elderberry may not be right for you, and you should engage with caution, following dose recommendations strictly. These medical situations include having autoimmune disease such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, or take immunosuppressants. For these people, elderberry’s ability to activate and strengthen your immune system may cause more harm than good, especially if you choose to exceed 3 Tablespoons per day. Please consult with your doctor on whether elderberry is right for you, and what is a good minimal daily dose.

Q4. Can my baby take some?

Because we sweeten our elderberry with local raw honey children under 1 years of age should not take our syrup. Have a baby’s first elderberry syrup celebration on their first birthday and email us a pic!

Q5. How many servings are in a bottle?

For an adult, the approximate serving values are as follows. 8oz bottle = 16, 16oz = 32 and 32oz = 64. Multiple that by 3 times for a teaspoon dose for young children. We know you could figure that out, but we thought we would make it easy on ya!

Q6. How long does the elderberry syrup last?

We use zero preservatives and take pride in our beautiful raw cold-process honey, so our finished product requires refrigeration. Hearthmother Goods elderberry syrup remains fresh in the fridge for at least 90 days from the date of brewing, and it can be frozen in a freezer safe container anytime before the best-by date for up to a year. We recommend using ice cube trays or a flat sided Tupperware which you can scoop out of. Elderberry syrup freezes scoopable, not solid.

Fire Cider Q & A

Q1. Explain fire cider to me?

Fire cider is a variation of a traditional herbal oxymel (infusion of honey and vinegar) When your immune system is under stress, and to have the final word over any infection you may struggle with... you’ll want to always have this remedy on hand. A base of organic raw apple cider vinegar, which aids digestion, blood sugar balance, and is alkalinizing to the body, is infused for weeks with nature's best anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-fungal herbs to extract the phytocompounds from these medicinal plants.  Fire cider relieves congestion, combats bacterial overgrowth, decongests sinuses, boosts circulation, boosts gut health, and delivers potent immune support when you need it. A heartwarming and enlivening sip for every day of the year.

Q2. Is it alcoholic?

Absolutely not. We use the term cider because of the apple cider vinegar, which is safe for all ages.

Q3. Is it super spicy?

Reading our ingredients list you might think that fire cider is intolerably spicy... But we have worked for years to craft a balanced recipe that is of use to our own children, even the youngest ones. It’s no use to their immune system if they refuse to drink it!! My recipe is sippable and moderate, balanced by some mild sweetness, and receives an upvote in taste from a wide variety of people including kids. For anyone struggling to adjust to any spice at all, try mixing fire cider in a cup of orange juice, or mixing it with elderberry syrup in a few sips of water to sweeten the dose.

Q4. Recommended Dosage and use?

A daily preventative dose for adults and older children is 1 Tablespoon. Children 1 -5 years may have one teaspoon. Dose 3 or more times per day when your immune system is under stress and you want to fight it off quickly. We recommend taking fire cider with a meal or a snack to avoid any feeling of excess acidity on an empty stomach. Pro mom tip: dilute in orange juice! do not serve to children under 12 months, honey is unsafe for infants.

Q5. How many servings are in a bottle?

An 8 ounce bottle contains 16 tablespoons. That’s 48 servings if you’re dosing a child, and 16 for mom or dad.

Q6. How long does fire cider last? Hearthmother Goods fire cider remains fresh in the fridge for 11-12 months.
